About Me

I am Balthas, a senior project manager for ‚Global Knowledge Sharing & Learning' at GIZ, the 'Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH'. The lead question of my work is: 'How can open knowledge sharing and learning foster the freedom to innovate in developing countries?' I am particularly interested in the knowledge commons, global knowledge sharing and social networking to build human capacities, link up people and foster open learning worldwide. I do advisory and training services for international cooperation programmes of the German government in the following areas: (1) peer-to-peer networking & community empowerment (2) commons-based peer production & knowledge sharing (3) open learning & open education (4) social networks for and with Alumni worldwide (5) open innovation and open source My section (‘Global Knowledge Sharing & Learning’) is part of the international education work of GIZ managed by its ‘German Academy for International Cooperation (AIZ)’. The unit hosts - inter alia - the Alumniportal Germany (http://www.alumniportal-deutschland.org/index-en.html) and GIZ’s e-Academy (http://www.gc21-eacademy.org/).
