About Me
I taught physics and earth science for 6 years in an inner city urban high school in Indiana. Then, I spent 9 years working with the NSF- and DOEnergy-sponsored QuarkNet program, where I worked with groups of physics teachers and particle physicists at universities and national labs around the country as they delved into particle physics. (Focused professional development, if you will.) After getting my fill on travel days away from home, I am now working as an independent consultant in the South Bend, Indiana area in STEM fields. I spent a summer participating in the Notre Dame RET Physics program doing research and design work for the CMS detector of the Large Hadron Collider at the CERN laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland. I also spent 18 months over 3 years as a co-op student doing research in nuclear fuels at Argonne National Laboratory during my undergraduate years. I have finally come to terms with the idea of doing research that leads to more understanding although not a new or improved product or process. Educationally, I earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering and MS in Secondary Ed. I am also certified in Indiana to teach Physics, Physical Science, Earth Science, Computer Science, Middle School Mathematics, and Middle School Science. I am currently a PhD Candidate in Leadership-Education at Andrews University. Workwise, I spent 5 years working full-time in youth ministry and 3 years working as a house parent & youth treatment specialist at a residential facility for emotionally troubled adolescents. Also, I spent 2 years as a foster mother for 2 long-term foster children.
