About Me

My work involves bringing fresh, meaningful curriculum initiatives to our independent, progressive K-8 school in the Bay Area. For the past 8 years I have been the Director of Service Learning, partnering with faculty, students, and leaders in the larger community to build an inspiring program for connecting and engaging with our world in lively and relevant ways. I feel challenged by how to create opportunities for our students to become innovative problem solvers within their own communities and am exploring this more deeply. Our recent Earth Day Celebration focused on "Design Thinking for a Whole Sustainable World" which highlighted what one can do here and in developing economies by understanding the issues, listening to the people you are trying to help, and applying academic disciplines to the design of new, appropriate technologies, businesses, and other processes in creative ways. I'm very much a hands on, learning by doing kind of educator and believe in constructive community activism, a global perspective, developing 21st century skills and values, and a joyful, compassionate approach to learning.
