Hi my name is Michael Ortman. I was born and raised in Lancaster, PA and completed my undergrad work in mathematics at Penn State University…GO LIONS! I taught HS mathematics at the Harrisburg City School district while doing graduate work at Shippensburg (math and Ed. Admin) between 1989 and 1995. Since that time my wife, Kathy, and I have had extremely rewarding careers teaching internationally. We lived in Kuwait for 4 years, Beijing for 6 years, Zambia for 2 years, and now Guangzhou for the past 5 years. Guangzhou is located just a 2 hour train ride outside Hong Kong and serves as the commercial hub for all things made in CHINA which makes it the most vibrant, rapidly expanding cities in china. In 2004 I earned an MA degree in educational technology from Michigan State University. I love teaching HS mathematics and have 24 years experience teaching both the International Baccalaureate and AP programs. Much of my energy these days is spent searching for ways to bring life to learning mathematics through the use of technology. I would consider myself to be a bit of a pragmatist when it comes to the use of technology. I really must see the added value in student learning before implement any new ideas in my classroom. With that said, I do enjoy exploring and experimenting with new ideas with both new and old technologies.
