About Me
I am a professional English Language teacher, with a Degree in English literature, a higher Diploma in Education, and T.E.F.L qualifications. I've been teaching English for eighteen years . My teaching experience has been in Ireland, Greece , and online. I ran my own offline tutoring business for seven years before moving online to expand my horizons. I’ve been teaching English online for the past three years. I specialise in exam preparation, and have had great success with students in Cambridge proficiency, Cambridge first certificate, IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, MICHIGAN, etc. I also teach business English online and have developed many creative ways to engage learners and prepare them for real life business situations. My brain-friendly approach to teaching means that I employ a diversity of creative techniques to make learning fun and effective. Creative thinking is something I foster in all students, whether it’s for exams, business or general English. From the backdrop of creative thinking and confidence –building, I get students to express themselves in highly-focused yet personalized ways, so as to achieve specific linguistic goals within a humanistic framework. Becoming fluent and articulate in a foreign language involves engaging the whole person, heart and mind. The psychology of learning is one of my pedagogical passions, and I use my knowledge in this area to develop memorization techniques and social and emotional learning experiences, to further the intellectual prowess of my students. I am also moving slowly into teacher-training as I get many requests from teachers in my personal learning network and hope to develop this side of my business through future courses in WizIQ. Apart from all that, I blog about education on a number of websites, including, of course, WizIQ. I design and develop brain-friendly learning materials, and am writing my first ELT books. As I live in Greece with my Greek husband and four bilingual children, I also teach my own kids English and have a great interest in bilingualism. I still teach some local young learners, so this keeps me in touch with the creativity of children. Much of what works with children helps my online adults too. As you can see, teaching is not just a job for me, it's a way of life
